Marcela Durán
Rosario, Argentinien
Marcela Durán comes from Rosario in Argentina, where her father played bandoneon in the city's tango orchestras. She started learning from the milongueros of her time at Salón Canning in 1988, moved to San Francisco in 1994 to dance in the Broadway production "Forever Tango", and was in the opening cast at the Walter Kerr Theatre in 1997. Carlos Gavito was her stage partner for ten years; together they developed the strongly forward-leaning, very close embrace her dancing is still known for. In 2000 she became World Champion in Argentine Tango of the International Dance Organization. She has taught in around a hundred cities across several continents and is regarded as a formative teacher for a whole generation.
